In 2013, I will be walking in my 15th breast cancer walk as the captain of the Men With Heart team (www.menwithheart.org).

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

“Old-line charities feel pinch of Marathon giving.” This was the title of a Boston Globe story a couple of months ago. As a seasoned veteran of 16 overnight walks and captain of the Men with Heart team, I can confirm that it is a challenging fund raising environment with most donors focusing their philanthropic efforts on other worthy causes. The problem is that breast cancer still needs our attention.

· Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among American women after skin cancer. It is the second leading cause of cancer death in women after lung cancer.

· In the U.S., an average of 112 women die of breast cancer every day, or one every 15 minutes.

· The United States has the most cases of breast cancer in the world.

To help in the fight against breast cancer, I will be walking once again in the Boston Komen 3-Day 60 mile walk starting this Friday, July 26th. I hope you will help me reach my personal fund raising goal of $3,000. To make this a little more interesting, I am donating 2 Red Sox/Yankees tickets (read details below).

How does Men with Heart makes a difference on the 3-Day walk?

The Komen 3-Day 60 mile Walk is an inspiring event that brings together wonderful people in the fight against breast cancer. MWH stands out among the predominantly women walkers – we wear yellow shirts, we carry backpacks filled with supplies (chocolates, band-aids, Vaseline, tampons, etc), and we sing songs to cheer along and support our fellow walkers. At the end of every day, we line up to cheer every walker in until the very last walker finishes. These small acts symbolize our effort to show that men care about the fight against breast cancer. Learn more about the team at www.menwithheart.org.

I need your help fund raising more than ever this year.

Donating money to my efforts is easy – click on the link below to go to the secure Men With Heart page to make a donation to my fund raising efforts. Men With Heart is a recognized 501(c) organization so your donation is tax deductible.

Win Red Sox tickets

For every “$25 increment” you donate to my goal, you will get a “virtual” raffle ticket into my personal sweepstakes for 2 Red Sox/Yankees tickets to the Sat., Sept 14th game at Fenway (2 Loge Box seats, 1st base side). If you donate $50, get 2 raffle tickets, donate $100, get 4 raffle tickets and if you donate $1,000, I’ll take you to a game. This is a chance to win great seats and support an important cause.

Thank you for your continued support!!!

Cheers,
Scott Walters
